I recently came back from Italy and I wanted to share my 10 top tips!
1.Book any trains ahead of time, much cheaper and don’t forget Seniors rates!
2.Hop on Hop Off Bus. We paid 19 euros for one day which was perfect if you have a limited time in Rome.
3.Free Walking Tours. You can prebook these tours for Vatican, Coliseum etc. You just tip the guide whatever you feel is appropriate for the tour.
4.Monastery- We stayed in a Monastery and it was great. It was a 112 euros for 2 in the neighbourhood of Trastevere, Rome. The location was great and it wa 30 minutes from the Vatican and Coliseum.
5. Buy water and pop from grocery store 2 euros versus 6 euros
6. Taxis – take the taxis with an official insignia on the side
7. Sorrento – if you are taking train from Sorrento remember the train is privately run. They can go on strike at anytime so your train can be cancelled. A driver to Naples is approximately 80 euros.
8. The train from Sorrento to Italy has pick pockets and gypsies that are always looking for money.
9. Amalfi Coast walking tour- We used Girosole tours and were very happy with the accommodations and service. My only comment is research where you are going and get in shape before travelling.
10. Engage in conversation with other tourists you will learn a lot about places to eat and visit!
